2013-01-24branch predictor: move out of o3 and inorder cpusNilay Vaish ext:(%2C%20Timothy%20Jones%20%3Ctimothy.jones%40cl.cam.ac.uk%3E)
This patch moves the branch predictor files in the o3 and inorder directories to src/cpu/pred. This allows sharing the branch predictor across different cpu models. This patch was originally posted by Timothy Jones in July 2010 but never made it to the repository. --HG-- rename : src/cpu/o3/bpred_unit.cc => src/cpu/pred/bpred_unit.cc rename : src/cpu/o3/bpred_unit.hh => src/cpu/pred/bpred_unit.hh rename : src/cpu/o3/bpred_unit_impl.hh => src/cpu/pred/bpred_unit_impl.hh rename : src/cpu/o3/sat_counter.hh => src/cpu/pred/sat_counter.hh
2012-11-02sim: Include object header files in SWIG interfacesAndreas Sandberg
When casting objects in the generated SWIG interfaces, SWIG uses classical C-style casts ( (Foo *)bar; ). In some cases, this can degenerate into the equivalent of a reinterpret_cast (mainly if only a forward declaration of the type is available). This usually works for most compilers, but it is known to break if multiple inheritance is used anywhere in the object hierarchy. This patch introduces the cxx_header attribute to Python SimObject definitions, which should be used to specify a header to include in the SWIG interface. The header should include the declaration of the wrapped object. We currently don't enforce header the use of the header attribute, but a warning will be generated for objects that do not use it.
2012-09-07Param: Transition to Cycles for relevant parametersAndreas Hansson
This patch is a first step to using Cycles as a parameter type. The main affected modules are the CPUs and the Ruby caches. There are definitely plenty more places that are affected, but this patch serves as a starting point to making the transition. An important part of this patch is to actually enable parameters to be specified as Param.Cycles which involves some changes to params.py.
2012-08-21CPU: Remove overloaded function_trace_start parameterAndreas Hansson
This patch removes the overloading of the parameter, which seems both redundant, and possibly incorrect. The inorder CPU is particularly interesting as it uses a different name for the parameter, and never make any use of it internally.
2012-02-24CPU: Round-two unifying instr/data CPU ports across modelsAndreas Hansson
This patch continues the unification of how the different CPU models create and share their instruction and data ports. Most importantly, it forces every CPU to have an instruction and a data port, and gives these ports explicit getters in the BaseCPU (getDataPort and getInstPort). The patch helps in simplifying the code, make assumptions more explicit, andfurther ease future patches related to the CPU ports. The biggest changes are in the in-order model (that was not modified in the previous unification patch), which now moves the ports from the CacheUnit to the CPU. It also distinguishes the instruction fetch and load-store unit from the rest of the resources, and avoids the use of indices and casting in favour of keeping track of these two units explicitly (since they are always there anyways). The atomic, timing and O3 model simply return references to their already existing ports.
2012-01-17CPU: Moving towards a more general port across CPU modelsAndreas Hansson
This patch performs minimal changes to move the instruction and data ports from specialised subclasses to the base CPU (to the largest degree possible). Ultimately it servers to make the CPU(s) have a well-defined interface to the memory sub-system.
2011-02-04inorder: add a fetch buffer to fetch unitKorey Sewell
Give fetch unit it's own parameterizable fetch buffer to read from. Very inefficient (architecturally and in simulation) to continually fetch at the granularity of the wordsize. As expected, the number of fetch memory requests drops dramatically
2011-02-04inorder: stage width as a python parameterKorey Sewell
allow the user to specify how many instructions a pipeline stage can process on any given cycle (stageWidth...i.e.bandwidth) by setting the parameter through the python interface rather than compile the code after changing the *.cc file. (we always had the parameter there, but still used the static 'ThePipeline::StageWidth' instead) - Since StageWidth is now dynamically defined, change the interstage communication structure to use a vector and get rid of array and array handling index (toNextStageIndex) since we can just make calls to the list for the same information
2011-02-03Config: Keep track of uncached and cached ports separately.Gabe Black
This makes sure that the address ranges requested for caches and uncached ports don't conflict with each other, and that accesses which are always uncached (message signaled interrupts for instance) don't waste time passing through caches.
2010-01-31configs/inorder: add options for switch-on-miss to inorder cpuKorey Sewell
2009-09-22python: Move more code into m5.util allow SCons to use that code.Nathan Binkert
Get rid of misc.py and just stick misc things in __init__.py Move utility functions out of SCons files and into m5.util Move utility type stuff from m5/__init__.py to m5/util/__init__.py Remove buildEnv from m5 and allow access only from m5.defines Rename AddToPath to addToPath while we're moving it to m5.util Rename read_command to readCommand while we're moving it Rename compare_versions to compareVersions while we're moving it. --HG-- rename : src/python/m5/convert.py => src/python/m5/util/convert.py rename : src/python/m5/smartdict.py => src/python/m5/util/smartdict.py
2009-03-04 InOrder didnt have all it's params set to a default value, which is now ↵Korey Sewell
required for M5 objects; Also, a # of values need to be reset to 0 (or the appropriate value) before we assume they are OK for use.
2009-02-10InOrder: Import new inorder CPU model from MIPS.Korey Sewell
This model currently only works in MIPS_SE mode, so it will take some effort to clean it up and make it generally useful. Hopefully people are willing to help make that happen!
